She was born in Grand Junction, Colorado, on August 13th, 1934.
She graduated Kemper Hall, and went on to pursue a degree in Engineering at Colorado School of Mines. She did not finish, however, being drawn to her future husband and the future in general!
She married Robert B Morris on November 28th, 1953. Alex and Robert pursued ranching careers, initially, but were quickly drawn to the booming oil and gas business growing in West Texas, and, before long, she was working as a landman draftswoman for Humble Oil Company. She continued to work in any way she could to help start HMH Operators with Robert and his business partners, and then set her sights on serving and building the Midland community in any way she could. Alex’s zest for life and new experiences saw her fulfil her service in many ways, from early on as a Junior League member, to volunteering at Casa de Amigos, Planned Parenthood (recipient of the Margaret Sanger Award), founded the West Texas Red Cross emergency response team, and enjoyed her business as a travel agent at Pilgrim Journeys. During her time in Midland, she was a news reporter for the local TV station, roustabout on several oil wells, 1st responder coordinator, choir member, Affirmative Action leader, and grand jury member. She loved her community, and inspired others to do the same.
She enjoyed playing tennis at the Elk’s Club and in tournaments around West Texas. She loved travel, in Russia, especially, as she loved Cathedrals and ancient architecture. But her favorite thing in the world was to have guests from all walks in life at her dinner table for festive and lively discussions.
Alex worshipped at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, where she served in many capacities, including lay reader, volunteer, and celebrant as Minister of the Sacrament for those infirmed/immobile.
After leaving Midland, Alex pursued a degree of Chaplain at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock, Texas, where she also completed her internship. She served in Lubbock for a time, and then decided to move around the country, working as a travel agent and Chaplain, depending on the situation. She eventually returned to Midland, where she enjoyed retirement until moving to the Austin area, ultimately living in Hutto.
She will be missed by her son, Dan, and her grandchildren, Katherine and Elizabeth Morris.
Her memorial service will be held at the Cook Walden Funeral Home, Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. She will be interred the following morning, as weather permits, at Oakwood Cemetery, in Austin, TX.
