Juarine was born in Mobile, Alabama, on July 2, 1937. While attending school in Prichard, Alabama, she was honored to serve as one of the school's May Day Queens. After graduating from Vigor High School in 1955, she earned her R.N. degree from Mather School of Nursing at Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, LA, in 1958. She worked in Obstetrics at Sanders and Sellers Clinic for 5 years under the direction of Dr. Simon Vivian Ward.
She was blessed to marry her handsome husband in 1963 after a whirlwind courtship. She was quoted as saying, “If that fool asks me to marry him, I’m going to say yes!” Her three greatest accomplishments soon followed in the form of two sons and a daughter. She was a devoted wife and mother, always going above and beyond to meet their needs. She was a Cub Scouts Den Mother, a baseball team mom, President of the Pan Am wives club, and a devoted swim team mom for the Grass Valley Penguins and the Berlin Bear-a-cudas.
She had an incredibly strong work ethic, instilled in her by her father, whom she said: “made work fun.” She had a knack for interior design and taught herself how to wallpaper, paint, sew, and re-cover furniture. Many of the homes of her family and friends around the world were transformed by her magical touch.
The “naive” little girl from a small town in Alabama was able to live out her dream of traveling all around the world! Finding herself married to an airline pilot, she was able to take many exciting trips to places such as Russia, Greece, and South Africa.
She loved to laugh and had a razor-sharp wit. Her inner joy overflowed onto all who knew her.
She loved to sing and was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice. She used her gift in many school and church choirs across the country and, most notably, was a member of the Light Side Singing Group in Grass Valley, California. While she was a gifted performer, she was never able to finish a whole chorus of “The Old Rugged Cross” without her nose turning red and tears streaming down her face.
Most of all, Juarine loved Jesus with all her heart, and her greatest joy was fulfilling a commitment she made with God before her children were born that each of them would become “well-rounded Christians,” a legacy that has extended to her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren!
A quote in her nursing school yearbook said about her, “She liked to like people; therefore, people liked her.” She made close friends in every city in which she lived, from Los Angeles, Pasadena, San Mateo, Nevada City, Berlin, Germany, Springfield, Mobile, and, lastly, Round Rock, TX. Because of her boldness and influence, many of those same friends, along with her family members, now know the Lord.
“If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” Romans 14:8
