Born in Coral Gables, Florida on November 8, 1945, Leslie pursued her education with dedication and curiosity. She attended Chateau Mont Choisi in Lausanne, Switzerland, before graduating from St. Anne's School in Charlottesville, Virginia. She continued her studies at Bradford Junior College in Haverhill, Massachusetts and later at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Leslie was a devoted and loving daughter, mother, and grandmother. She cherished her family deeply and took great joy in creating warm and memorable experiences for them. A fantastic cook and entertainer, she would spend hours creating and presenting the perfect meal. Christmas was always her favorite time of year, filled with the sounds of classical music—her favorite being John Rutter—and the smells of Swiss cookies and gingerbread. She loved spending time in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Creativity was a defining trait throughout her life, evident in everything she pursued with passion and care.
Leslie is survived by her children, Allison K. Shay and William D. Shay III; her daughter-in-law, Gillian O. Shay; her nephew, Nathan Howdon; and her beloved grandchildren, William Q. Daniel, Henry H. Daniel, and Isabella L. Shay. She was predeceased by her parents, Arline K. Howdon and William M. Howdon, M.D., as well as her brother, William M. Howdon Jr.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
