Ann Amarylis Neumann Russo, 83, born August 1, 1927 passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2010. She was the daughter of Henry J. Neumann and Ella Remmers Neumann, and was raised in Shiner, Texas along with her brother Henry Neumann.
Ann graduated as salutatorian from Shiner High School and attended Durham’s Business College in Austin, Texas. While in Austin, she met Leonard L. Russo of Norwalk, Connecticut and they were married in Norwalk on October 26, 1946. She enjoyed her move to Norwalk, especially time spent with her new extended family including sister and brothers-in-law Tillie Peretti and husband Albert, Michael Russo and wife Marie, Ralph Russo, Danny Russo and wife Barbara and Bill Domalewski and his wife Josephine, Rose Santo and husband Anthony, Danny Grecco and wife Catherine, Jim Grecco and wife Helen, and Bill Grecco and wife Angie. Ann and Leonard lived and worked in Connecticut for three years before moving back to Austin where they raised their two sons, Louis D. Russo and Leonard L. Russo, Jr.
Ann retired from the Department of Public Safety as a fingerprint technician and enjoyed her friendship with several of the ladies from “the fingerprint line” over the years. She also looked forward to reunions with cousins in Texas, trips with friends, vacations with family in Connecticut, and reunions with her husband’s WWII buddies and their wives. She was a member of the Second Division Association Auxiliary and St. Louis Catholic Church. Ann cherished her family and Sundays were typically spent serving a huge meal (usually Italian) to her children, grandchildren, nieces attending UT and many of their friends who frequently dropped by.
She is survived by her sons Louis Russo and wife Lissa, Leonard Russo and wife Pam; grandchildren Matthew Russo and his wife Alexandra, Kristin Russo, Daniel Russo, Suzanne Russo and her husband Zach, Trent Russo, Trevor Russo and many nieces and nephews.
Ann was a devout Christian, a faithful and loving wife, a great and supportive mother and beloved grandmother.
Ann was preceded in death by her mother and father, brother Henry J. Neumann, sister-in-law Jean Neumann, husband Leonard Russo, and brothers-in-law Danny Russo and wife Barbara, and Bill Domalewski.
The family would like to thank her doctors Adam Schneider, Robert Askew, Otto Brandt, Robert Kerr, William Robinson and Laura Bunch. We would also like to especially thank her friends and neighbors, Pastor Paul Buford and his wife Martha, Nancy Carrizales, her caretakers from BrightStar, and staff from Austin Hospice for their loving support during her final days.
The family will receive friends from 2:30pm to 3:30pm, Saturday, August 28, 2010, at the Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 N. Interstate Highway 35, in Pflugerville, Texas. Celebration of her life will follow at 3:30pm with Pastor Paul Buford officiating.
