Anna Bertha Martha (Westendorf) Wachholz was born in Milwaukee, WI on October 2, 1925 into a home that spoke both German and English. She is the last of her generation in the family. Anna left her home at the age of 19 to follow her husband Edward around the world during his career in the Air Force. They lived in California, Germany and Guam and also traveled to more than 30 countries. In later years when her husband entered the ministry, they served in two rural Lutheran churches. A moral, Christian woman, Anna considered herself a very happy woman to have had the life she did. She was always active in her church and was involved in the German American Club. She opened her home with a giving heart to people who needed temporary support and they sponsored over 100 people to America. They were members of Hope Lutheran Church in Austin for many years. Anna and Edward were married for 65 years, and together shared a very loving and meaningful relationship that was a role model for all. No matter what, she was always there as his supportive wife and loving partner.
Anna is survived by her husband, Rev. Edward Wachholz; children, Lynda Jue of Fresno, CA, Kristyne McKay of Austin, Heidy Sanders of Oklahoma City, OK, and Petyr Wachholz of Austin; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 2010 at the Heatherwilde Assisted Living Center, 401 S. Heatherwilde, Pflugerville.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association (472-9838) or the Our Savior Lutheran School (836-9600).
