

Barbara Jane Butler Meek was born on January 21, 1925 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Her parents were Hyman Claude Butler and Anna Louis Bumpus. She had a brother Hyman Claude Butler, Jr. (deceased) two sisters Margaret Ann Butler Robinson (deceased) and Helen Louise Butler Nemeth.
While at St. Ann's Catholic High School, she excelled in history. Barbara's first love, however, was dancing and she fell in love with her future husband whom she met while he played in a "Glenn Miller like band" at a USO Dance.
On August 19, 1944 Barbara married her husband Robert Adamson Meek. They were referred to as "Bob and Bobbie" by all their friends.
Bob and Barbara had nine children and lived throughout the world following Bob's Air Force career. Some of the notable places they lived include: Knoxville TN., Langshire England, Syracuse N.Y., the Philippine Islands, Montgomery AL, and Alexandria VA., finally settling in California where they lived in Huntington Beach and Palos Verdes.
Barbara leaves behind, eight surviving children, preceded by her husband of 66 years, and her son Timothy. She has 17 grandchildren.
Her passions in life were cooking and entertaining as well as traveling, one trip of which was around the globe on a cruise with her husband, sister Helen and her brother-in- law Richard Nemeth.
She loved listening to Big Band music, and jazz, and attended many if her husband Bob 's recitals and "gigs" throughout her married life.
Barbara will best be remembered by her love of life, love of friends, and involvement in her community, especially giving of herself with those less fortunate.
She will be sorely missed.
