

Bennie Lee Murchison, age 90, of Austin, passed away on January 2, 2017. He was born on May 7, 1926 in Waco, Texas to Peter Alexander and Callie Mae (Collins) Murchison. He was married to Mildred Lee Murchison on September 28, 1950. Bennie was a self-employed carpenter and served in the US Navy at Pearl Harbor during World War II.
Prior to becoming a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, he was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church. He had a passion for fishing, dancing to country music, bowling, playing pool and dominos. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mildred, his sister, Wanda Norris, grandson, Gene McIntyre, and his beloved companion, Jean O’Grady. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Marjorie McIntyre, Sandra Crutchfield and husband Jimmy, Robert Murchison, Randy Murchison, and Patricia Rinehart and husband, Jerry; grandchildren, James Crutchfield, Laurie McIntyre, Tanya Barnes and husband Ben, John McIntyre and wife Cynthia, Christy Spych and husband Dave, Margaret Conrad and husband David, Kimberly Gushanas and husband Timothy, Peter Murchison and Jozlyn Murchison; great-grandchildren, Alex and Elijah Barnes, Caeden and Conner McIntyre, Ella Spych, and Maddox Gushanas; his brother, Vernon Murchison; sister, Peggy Stewart and husband Richard, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly.
His late life companion and partner, Jean O’Grady, impacted him tremendously. Jeanie showed him the world and gave him much happiness. She cared for him until her passing in 2014. The O’Grady family will always be a part of the Murchison family and were close to Bennie and his childrens’ hearts.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Davita Waterloo Dialysis, Austin for all the love and care for the past twelve years. They would also like to thank his sister Peggy, the caregivers, medical doctors, and home health nurses for your continuous love and support. Another thank you goes to Pastor George Ward and his wife, Susan, and all of his church family at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Austin.
Honoring Bennie as pallbearers will be Peter Murchison, James Crutchfield, John McIntyre (Honorary), Noel John Taylor, James Norris, Kenneth Harris, David Harris, Mike Taylor, and Noel Taylor, Jr.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral services will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. He will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Pflugerville Lions Club.
