Bertha Harrison passed away Friday morning, January 11, 2019, in her home at Legacy Oaks. Family, friends and neighbors had been with her during the last week sharing their love and support. The family would like to give a special thanks to Magnolia Hospice, Legacy Oaks Staff and friends at Heavenly Care for their special kindness.
Bertha was born to Erna and Anton Buethe on March 1, 1927 in Creedmoor, Texas. Her father died when she was young and her mother remarried William Brauchle and the family moved to a farm in Floresville, Texas. This is where she grew up and went to school. After graduating from Pleasanton High School, she moved to San Antonio and graduated from San Antonio Business School. This is where she met and married her husband of 54 years, Billy E. Harrison. After Billy graduated from Chiropractic school, they moved to Austin to be close to UT, planning ahead for their children. They had a successful chiropractic office in Austin for 50 years in which Bertha was a radiologist, physical therapist, massage therapist and office manager. Bertha and Billy were involved in the Lions Club and other helping organizations in Austin. They did this while raising their four children, Janet, Margie, Barbara and Billy.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Billy, her brother Herbert, and daughter Margie Harrison Smith. She is survived by her daughter Janet Miller and son-in-law Larry Miller of Austin, daughter Barbara Harrison of Plano, son Billy Harrison of Allen and son-in-law Wylie Smith of Wilmington, N.C. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Kim Luikart, Shawn Miller, Beck Smith, Emmy Harrison, Mathew Harrison and 8 great grandchildren.
Bertha enjoyed gardening and watching the wild birds at her feeders. She valued education and was one that believed in strong women before it was vogue. She will be remembered by friends and family as being an amazing mom and just a very good person to everyone she met.
