Betty Jean was born May 23rd, 1934, to Jesse James and Corine Wilson in San Antonio, Texas where she graduated from Phyliss Wheatley High School. Betty Jean was the third child born to her parents' brood of five.
Our beautiful matriarch, Betty Jean, was endearingly known as Granny Girl and GiGi. She was a self-taught seamstress, a cook and a published poet. She instilled her love for God and family in each one of us. She led her life with kindness and grace. There was always a smile on her face. Betty Jean boasted that her greatest accomplishment in life was being a mother. An awesomely amazing mother she was.
She was charged with the awesome task of having and raising twelve children, a perfect combination of six boys and six girls.
Betty Jean was predeceased by her parents, her older sister, Violet Odessa Cook, older brother, Paul Lawrence Wilson, daughter, Amy Margaret Polk-White and three sons, James Kenneth Polk Sr, Euwell Douglas Price and Keith Evan Wilson Sr.
She is survived by her two younger sisters, Alice Marie Culpepper and Barbara Ann White; daughters, Deborah Larnette King, Sandra Kay Wilson, Mary Catherine Washington, Pamela Denise Williams, and Angela Price Diaz; and sons, Donnie Ray Price, Robert Earl Price and Dwayne Eric Price. She was a grandmother to forty-one grandchildren, a great-grandmother to forty-seven and a great-great-grandmother to twenty.
She leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who loved themselves some Aunt Betty.
Betty Jean’s life was richly filled with serving and witnessing the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ wherever she would go, until the day he called her home.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Kindful Health Hospice, her nurse “best friend”, Natalie and Chaplain Melvin Williams.
To the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for your exceptional service. We are particularly grateful for your empathy, professionalism and your guidance as we navigate through this difficult time. Your kindness to our family means so much.
