late Artie Banks, Sr. and Eva Tate Banks. He was the sixth child among eleven children.
Brother Banks grew up and attended public schools in Baton Rouge, LA., and graduated from Scotlandville High School in 1971. After graduating from high school he sought to enlist in the United States Marines. At the same time he also applied for admission to the Camp Gary Job Corp in San Marcos, TX, and since they were the first to call, he moved to Texas to start a new life. He worked 10 years for TXDOT, then started his own business, Multi-Construction & Cleaning Service in 1985. In conjunction with his own business, he was employed at the University of Texas at Austin, and retired after 25 years from his Maintenance Supervisor position in Parking and Transportation.
It was at Camp Gary Job Corp that Brother Banks accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior on November 28, 1971 after hearing the gospel preached by the Late Bishop Roland James Allen during his year of conducting Sunday worship services at the Protestant Chapel on campus. Brother Banks was ordained to the office of a Deacon in 1974, where he served faithfully for twenty-four years; the last half of those years as the Head Deacon. He also served as Vice-President/Treasurer on the Board of Trustees of the Roland James Allen Evangelical Association. In 1997 Brother Banks was called into the ministry, and served faithfully as an Associate Minister under the leadership of Pastor Eddie E. Willis, Sr. One of his roles in ministry was teaching Young Married Couples classes at church and in his home, which he enjoyed doing very much while sharing his experiences as a young Christian married man.
On September 29, 1972 Brother Banks was united in holy matrimony to his beloved wife LaVerne Rivers Banks. They were blessed with four beautiful children; two daughters and two sons. Brother Banks loved being a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and took pride in taking good care of his wife, home and family.
Brother Charles Edward Banks, Sr. entered into eternal rest on October 1, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest sister, Annie Jean Young, and five brothers: Artie Banks, Jr., Ellis Banks, Louis Banks, Larry Banks and Raymond Banks.
