Charles was born in Thorndale, Texas to Walter and Anna (Patschke) Iselt. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School in Thorndale and graduated from Thorndale High School. When Charles wasn’t attending school, he was working on the family farm, at the local gas station, or volunteering at St. Paul Lutheran Church. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and while stationed at Castle Air Force Base in Merced, California, he met the love of his life, Clariest Kelly and they were united in marriage in 1954. Shortly after their marriage, Charles was assigned to Andersen Air Force Base in Guam and upon completing his active duty, Charles and Clariest relocated to Austin where he attended Durham Business College.
He was a devoted member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin for over 68 years. He served on many committees and volunteered countless hours, including serving as Treasurer and Congregation President. Prior to retirement, Charles was employed as the Chief, Fiscal Affairs at the Department of Public Safety for 35 years. Following retirement Charles and Clariest traveled the United States and internationally.
Those left behind to remember him are his beloved wife of 69 years, Clariest Iselt, daughters, Debra Peterson and husband Bob, Linda Hackleman and husband Garry, and Tammy Iselt, all of Austin; 10 grandchildren and 14, soon to be 15 great-grandchildren. Charles also leaves behind brother Leonard Iselt and wife Helen, sister Donna Beran, and many nieces and nephews. Charles is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Anna Iselt, and brothers Norris Iselt and Curtis Iselt.
