Curtis was a lifelong member of David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized in 1945 by Reverend E.G. Gibbs. Over the years, he was a junior usher, junior deacon and was a member of the Boy Scouts, through the church. Curtis was also a member of the male chorus, under the direction of his sister, Ruth Sauls. He was an avid fisherman and went on many fishing trips to Corpus Christi with his brothers, Walter and Jimmy.
Curtis graduated from the original L.C. Anderson High School and played on the Yellow Jackets Champion Football team. He attended Cisco College and Texas College. He proudly served in the Marine Corps from 1963-1973 and was deployed to Chu Lai Republic of Vietnam, where he saw combat. He was honorably discharged with a medical disability.
Curtis later worked for the Department of Health & Human Services as a truck driver. He traveled the entire State of Texas, making lasting friendships along the way.
After a brief stay at Ascension Seton Hospital and Beacon Hospice, both in Round Rock, he came home, where he transitioned peacefully to his eternal resting place, free of pain and suffering.
