He was born in Palestine, Texas on August 20, 1951. He graduated from Palestine High School in 1969 as class valedictorian. He attended Lon Morris Junior College and Stephen F. Austin University where he received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Education, History, and Journalism. He also received a Mid-Management certificate in Public School Administration and a Master of Education from the University of Texas at Austin. He worked as an educator and administrator in the Round Rock Independent School District from which he retired in 2003 with over 20 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Cornelius and Mary Christian Moore. He is survived by his wife Rose Marie McKenzie; daughter, April Renee Strickler of Louisville, Kentucky; son, Robert Andrew Moore of Round Rock; stepsons, Henry Aaron (Marissa) Garcia, William (Allison) Herrington and stepdaughter, Jo Renee (Carlos) Garza, all of Round Rock; and stepdaughter, Mary (Jaimie) Purcell of Victoria, Texas. He had one granddaughter, Lizzi Strickler and 11 step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Carrol Ray Moore (Dorothy), a loving nephew and two nieces.
He spent many hours as a volunteer with different organizations around the community. David was especially proud of his work with the Boy Scouts of America where he mentored youth for over 20 years. He spent much of his life helping students succeed and enjoyed every minute of it.
David was a proud UT alumnus and was an avid fan of his Texas Longhorns. He enjoyed collecting Longhorn memorabilia and attending football games. He enjoyed hiking and touring National Parks, spending time with family and friends, and taking walks around his Round Rock West neighborhood.
