David Pimentel stepped from this life into the loving arms of Jesus on October 6, 2015. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 13, 1942. He was the oldest of 7 children born to E.M and Concepcion Pimentel both preceding him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Becky; sons, Jason (Melissa) and Kevin (Staci); grandsons, Keagan, Greyson, Daniel, Alex and Jonathan; brothers, Bob (Linda), Richard (Kathleen) and Charlie (Linda); and sisters, Ruth Ochoa, Yolanda Pimentel, and Dalia Stanwood. Also surviving are ½ sisters, Hope Flores and Sallie Bargo.
David moved from New Braunfels, Texas to Corsicana, Texas when he was in the 3rd grade. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1961 where he was a member of the student council and president of the band. He received a college scholarship and was a member of the band and the Corp at Texas A&M University before transferring to Navarro Junior College and then graduating from Texas Tech University in 1965 with a BA in Business Administration. Following graduation, he worked briefly at the Collin Street Bakery in Corsicana where he met a deaf lady and asked her to teach him American Sign Language. He served in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1970 attaining the rank of Captain. He served as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer, with his final tour at Osan Air Force Base in South Korea. With his discharge nearing, he began asking God what he should do with the rest of his life. He felt strongly about serving the deaf, and chose to go into the counseling field. He attended the University of Arizona receiving a Masters Degree in Rehab Counseling with the Deaf in 1971. Dave was employed by the Texas Rehabilitation Commission in a number of different capacities retiring in 2003 as the Systems Project Manager for the Disability Determination Services. He then worked 2 more years for the Internal Revenue Service retiring for good in 2005.
While attending the University of Arizona, he was invited to participate in a Bible study sponsored by Officer’s Christian Fellowship. There he met his wife of 43 years, Becky, a nurse in the United States Air Force Nurse Corp. They married in 1972 and at her discharge moved to Baytown, Texas and from there to Austin where they have lived for 36 years. Dave was first and foremost a man of God. His goal was to serve others and bring glory to Him. From 2006-2013, he lovingly served by Becky’s side as she and her sisters cared for her elderly parents. He was the epitome of a good neighbor. Over the years he served in numerous capacities in the church including T.V. camera operator, trustee, Bible study teacher, Sunday school teacher, and bulletin proof-reader. They are currently members of Central Round Rock Church.
Dave was an Amateur Radio operator and recently received his Extra License after scoring a 100 on the exam. He and Becky also enjoyed camping, hiking and bird watching. Dave also enjoyed photography. They recently purchased a 17’ travel trailer, which they named EggRoll. In the last year, they camped at several different campgrounds in Texas and just recently returned from a 2 week trip to Mt. Rushmore camping all along the way. His greatest joy, however, was time spent with family, and in recent years, especially with his 5 grandsons. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
The family wants to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Texas Oncology for their loving care over the last 3 years. In addition, our thanks and gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. David’s NAMC hospital who made this difficult time a little easier.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home, Pflugerville, Texas. Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 12, 2015 at 1:00 pm in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks with interment to follow.
