Deeba Winwood Swanzy Vandiver, 51, of Pflugerville, Texas, passed away suddenly after a short illness on November 21, 2014. She was a kind, loving daughter, sister, wife and mother. Deeba was born August 9, 1963, to Joe and Patricia Swanzy in Port Arthur, Texas. She grew up in Groves, Texas, and attended school in the Port Neches-Groves School District. In 1979 she met Dana Vandiver, also of Groves. They married in 1984 and began their journey together in Houston, where they quickly adopted Darci, their beloved miniature dachshund. In 1987 they moved to California, starting in West Los Angeles, eventually landing in La Habra, where they added a Yellow Lab named Daile to their little family in 1992. When she found out their first child was on the way, Deeba, Dana, Darci and Daile headed back to Texas in January 1996. Jeptha Austin Vandiver was born in Austin that July. The family moved to Pflugerville shortly thereafter and Allie Winwood Vandiver was born in February, 2005.
Deeba started her working life at Fox Photo, spanning fourteen years between Texas and California. While in California, she also worked for the Southern California College of Optometry and continued her education at Fullerton College and Hacienda College with environmental studies. Upon returning to Texas she worked for Pounds Labs and Accugraphics, and spent seven years at Cedra Corporation where she met what were to become some of her closest friends. Most recently, Deeba was an Assistant Vice President at Prosperity Bank in Cedar Park, where she had been since 2006. She will be missed by her co-workers and customers alike.
Above all, Deeba loved her family, her dogs, and life. She was a talented photographer, often working professionally. She hand-made Halloween costumes for the kids and was a dedicated Band Mom, spending countless hours volunteering for Pflugerville High School Marching Band events. She could turn on that million-dollar smile and light up any room.
Deeba was preceded in death by her father Joe Swanzy in 2004, and her mother Patricia Swanzy in September, 2014, a mere nine weeks before her own passing. She is survived by her husband, Dana Vandiver, her two children Austin, 18, and Allie, 9, her brothers Nathan Shawn Swanzy and his wife Judith, Aaron Swanzy and his wife Amie, nieces and nephews Brandi, Chase, Ian, Patience, Dean and Dru, grandniece Baylee and grandnephew Joseph. She will also be missed by her dogs Gracie, Sadie, Katie and Emma.
A celebration of Deeba’s life will be held on Monday, December 1st at 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, 1104 North Mays, Round Rock, Texas. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made to the Austin Humane Society in Deeba’s honor. The Austin Humane Society can be reached at 512-685-0126 or www.austinhumanesociety.org.
