Don Edward Aguilera was born in Austin, TX, on March 7, 1949, to Manuel and Janie Aguilera. He was the youngest of his siblings Ross, Sarah, Lawrence, Janie, Manuel Jr., and Linda. Except for the years he gave serving his country, Don called Austin his lifelong home.
With a spirit of courage and duty, Don honorably served in the United States Marine Corps. His service began in San Diego, California, where he earned the title of Marine. His service as a Marine took him to the jungles of Vietnam, where he fought side by side with some of the bravest people our nation has ever known, many of which only returned home in his memories.
Once Don's tour of duty in Vietnam was complete, Don married the love of his life, Grace Alonzo and they both moved to Jacksonville, North Carolina where he completed his military commitment and received an Honorable Discharge.
Don and Grace returned home to Austin, TX to begin their family. There, they welcomed four children: Donna, Angelique, Dan, and Joni.
Don worked at different companies, throughout his life, but his main occupation was being a Husband, a Father, a Grandfather and a Great-Grandfather. His joy for life, humor, and compassion for others left a lasting impression on everyone who met him.
Don’s faith was the foundation of his life. He devoted himself to following the example of Jesus Christ, often sharing how God’s love carried him through the horrors of war, the trials of life, moments of weakness, and times of uncertainty. His strength came from his deep belief that through Christ, there is always peace, purpose, and life everlasting.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Janie Aguilera; his brothers Ross and Manuel Jr. Aguilera; his infant daughter Angelique and beloved granddaughters, Stephanie and Moriah Arteaga and Isabella Aguilera.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Grace Aguilera; his children Donna (Mike) Arteaga, Dan (Miesa) Aguilera, and Joni (Troy) Putman; his grandchildren Adam (Jessica) Arteaga, Moses (Kerry) Arteaga, Dylan Aguilera, Jacob Arteaga, Troy Putman, Donavan Aguilera, Addison Putman, Gideon Aguilera, and Gabriel Aguilera; and his great-grandchildren Noah, Hannah, Sarah, Micah, Julia, Trinity and Scarlet Arteaga.
Don Aguilera will be remembered for his laughter, his generosity, his unwavering faith, and the love he poured into his family and friends. His life was a reflection of God’s grace, and his memory will continue to shine as a blessing to all who knew him.
