She moved, along with her family, to Edinburg, TX at the start of WWII to partner in a citrus growing business, which has now become famously known as Tex-Sun. In 1945 she enrolled at UT Austin, where she became a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor’s Degree in music education. She was also elected as an honorary member of the “Phi Mu” Society.
She met and married “the love of her life” Wilbur R. Davis Jr., who later became the operator of the family-owned Home Steam Laundry, which is still in business today. They were married for a wonderful 67 years. She and Wilbur regularly “Dosey-Doed” as members of several local square dance groups.
Together, they were very active members of several of Austin’s Methodist churches. They are most recently proud Charter Members of the Westlake United Methodist Church. She showed her great compassion for giving through service to her family and the community. Throughout her life Doris served as a volunteer to her church, as well as the Girl Scouts of America, the PTA, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Meals on Wheels and proudly at St. David’s Hospital for 30 years.
She is survived by her husband, Wilbur and her children, Robert Davis and wife Laura, Debbie Soule and husband Barry, and Jon Davis. Her legacy lives on in her example of service for her grandchildren, Renee Rose and husband Jack, Leslie Mulroney and husband Brian, Derik Harding and wife Cassandra, Kallee Soule, Amanda Haisler and husband Dustin, Christina Green and husband Caleb, Zach Davis and Seth Davis and her great-grandchildren Cooper, Cayson, Jaymie, Kaden, Malachi, Eden, Aurelia and Libby. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret and her brother, Keith.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to Habitat for Humanity.
