Dorris Mae Parker was born on “June of the 9th,” as her father would say, in 1926 in Austin, Texas to Laura Mae and Bernice Franklin Parker. She had two sisters, Marion Elizabeth and Bernice LaNell and a brother Bobby Franklin. She passed into the loving arms of our Savior Jesus Christ on July 7, 2013 a little over a year after the death of her husband, James R. Stegall. Jim had been her primary care giver for a number of years and she was lost without him. They had been married for over 68 years. Dorris was a devoted Army wife having relocated when Jim got new orders so many times we all lost count. She was a loving wife, a great mother and a WONDERFUL grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She built tree houses, poured patios, sidewalks, built fireplaces; she wrangled horses and ponies, sewed sequined skating costumes and many fancy Halloween outfits for all, attended many school events ranging from grade school performances to high school plays. One of Dorris and Jim’s greatest joys was assisting their great-granddaughter Zoe complete college. She was an endless supply of love to us all and she will be greatly missed. As a family we are joyous that she has been reunited with her beloved Jim.
