She is survived by two sisters; her children, Lorraine Fisher (Bill), Glenda Zimmerman (DeWayne), and Billy Ferren (Veronica); grandchildren, Brian Ferren (Stephanie), Audrea Hiatt, Valerie Lewis, Victoria Zimmerman, Billy Ferren Jr, Calvin Ferren, and David Ferren; great-grandchildren, Ava, Viviana, Madilyn, David, and Adriana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister, and son Charles Ferren.
Eleanor was born and raised on a farm in Numa, Iowa where she developed a love for animals, especially her dogs. During her high school years she excelled in basketball. She later married her high school sweetheart and they started their family.
Eleanor enjoyed her retirement after working for The State of Texas for over 20 years. She felt staying up late, sleeping in, and making her own schedule was well deserved after working to make a living and raise her children. She liked meeting up with her girlfriends for lunch and occasionally going back to the office for a holiday party. To pass time, she was fond of cooking and baking; never too shy to let anyone know when something did not turn out as she had planned and that it would probably taste bad. She was partial to reading cook books and nonfiction and watching television programs about cooking, science, and travel. She loved concise phone conversations with purpose and despised telemarketers, especially when they woke her up in the morning.
It was important to her to keep in touch with friends and family in and out of state via phone and mail, and to get together when possible. She always relished in her family’s laughter and boisterous conversation. Eleanor was a strong and fiercely independent woman that always spoke her mind. She was also a private woman who better showed her family she loved them more often with actions, rather than words. The reflection of her strength (and stubbornness) can be seen in her children and will surely continue on for generations. We are thankful for our time with her. We loved her and we will miss her dearly.
