Betty, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, was born in Rhinebeck, New York, on July 9, 1930. She attended St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Newburg, New York and earned her Registered Nurse Certification on August 6, 1952. While in Newburg, Betty also met West Point cadet, Ed D. Davis, who soon became her beloved husband and partner in life for over 68 years. Together, while following Ed’s career as a pilot in the United States Air Force, they raised their four children in numerous cities in ten different states. Their final tour of duty brought them to Austin, Texas where they joined their adult children and settled into their final home in 1980. Betty volunteered at her church and later helped run the Mother’s Day Out Program at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. Much later in life, Betty and Ed adopted one of their granddaughters, and raised her as their own. Betty was acknowledged numerous times for the volunteer work she did at the local elementary, middle and high school.
When Betty was not doting on her husband, children or grandchildren, she enjoyed baking her family’s favorite cookies and cakes, entertaining family and friends, watching TV with her loving and loyal dogs Peanut, Ellie, and Shorty in her lap, and reading books and magazines.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Davis, and son, Michael Davis. She is survived by her daughter, Patty Oppel, two sons, Bob and Bill Davis (and wife, Karen), five grandchildren, William Cozzens, Brittany, Joey and Beth Ann Davis, and Kailey Davis (and husband, Hunter Miller), and one great-grandson, Kai Edward Davis.
She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
A private niche-side funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, January 29 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 14501 N Interstate Hwy 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
