Esther was raised in a tightly knit family in East Austin, along with nine siblings. Introduced to faith at an early age by her parents, she was baptized at 12th Street Missionary Baptist Church. She later became a member of One Way Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Bernard Buhl.
Esther was a 1973 graduate of Albert Sydney Johnston High School. She became a licensed cosmetologist in 1973. On March 3, 1974, she was united in holy matrimony to Bill “Wild Bill” Marshall. During Esther and Wild Bill’s 31 years of marriage, their union was blessed with three children: one son, Paul, and two daughters, Erica and Krystle.
Esther began her career with the State of Texas Comptroller’s Office in October 1978. Upon her husband's passing in 2005, she stepped into the successful family trucking business, Marshall Trucking, by running three 18-wheelers while still working for the Comptroller’s Office. Esther retired from the Revenue Processing Section of the Comptroller’s Office in February 2007 after 28 years of service. Once fully retired in 2009, Esther found great joy in going on family road trips, quilting, thrifting, and taking photos. She dedicated herself to helping coordinate family gatherings, keeping family, friends, and former co-workers connected and engaged through a variety of social media posts, and most importantly, creating lasting memories with her grandchildren.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Marshall; her parents, Royce and Georgia Medlock; and her brother, George Medlock.
She leaves to cherish her memories in their hearts forever: her loving children, Paul (LaToya) Marshall of Austin, Texas, Erica Marshall of Spring, Texas, and Krystle Nicole of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren: Larenz Marshall of Montgomery, Alabama, Taylor Finley of Austin, Texas, Sydney Marshall of Prosper, Texas, Ah’melio Brooks of Austin, Texas, and Khy’inah Nicole of Austin, Texas; two special young ladies, who affectionately called her Granny: Dejanique Nelson and Kylee Funderburke; eight siblings: Royce Marie Pryor, Andrew Lee Medlock, Martha Coleman, Christine Sidle, Catherine (Ira) Daniels, Richard Medlock, Tony (Ann) Medlock, and Steven Bernard Medlock; sister-in-law: Rose Medlock; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
