Evelyn Oneita Boyd
12-04-1916 -- 08-12-2011
On Friday, August 12th, "God took another angel home. One that He let fill all of our lives with countless amounts of Joy...We knew the heavens would need to open far and wide to receive such a big heart and loving person."
Evelyn Oneita Garrison was born in Happy, Texas on December 4, 1916 to Willie L. Cruikshank Garrison and William L. Garrison. When Mom was 9 the family moved to Ashley, Illinois and at age 17 she moved to Kirkwood, Missouri to help out in the family general grocery store. One day while Mom was sweeping off the front porch of the grocery store she began to whistle a song called, "The Bully of the Town." Working right next door at a gas station was a tall blue eyed red hair lanky young man. When he heard the whistling he went to see what "all that noise" was about. Then and there began a love story that lasted 60 years. (Thank you God for that song.) After their brief courtship he borrowed $2.00 from Evelyn to buy a marriage license and so with $.50 between them to begin their new life, Evelyn married our dad, Dee E. Boyd on Thursday, February 13, 1935.
Times were tough, life was hard however it was their strong belief in God, tremendous love for each other and hard work that helped them over many hurdles. They would live 50 years in the St. Louis County, Missouri area where with Mom's support Dad created what became a very successful business called Boyd Contracting Co. They moved to Round Rock, Texas in 1987 after Dad retired.
Lovingly called Mom or MaMa, Mom spent her life doing what meant the most to her--being a wife and helper to Dad, mother to we four children, friend, grand, great, and great great grandmother. Everyone was welcome in her home and at her table. She knew no strangers. Her friendly smile that lit up a room, glistening blue eyes, soft words, kindness, love, respect and generous acts towards all enveloped everyone in her presence. She enjoyed all types of music and oh boy how she loved to sing and tap her foot to the beat of the song.
Mom was an avid sports fan of the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball and the UT Texas football teams. If they were winning she would cheer loudly with excitement and in the tense moments she might grab ahold of you with that same kind of anticipated excitement. If you didn't want to get lovingly beat on you wouldn't sit near mom when she was watching those teams play.
Mom enjoyed square dancing, raising and showing doberman pinchers, min pins and brussel griffons, and was a 65 year member of the Order of the Easter Star. Above all else what meant the most to her, her precious assets, was her husband Dee and her family which she called "Her Diamonds and her Jewels."
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, sisters and brothers and her husband, our Dad and PaPa, who we know was there waiting on "his one and only" with arms open wide. She is survived by her sons, Dee Jr. and Phyllis of Ocalla, Florida, Charles and Sharon Boyd of Pointe Venture, Texas and daughters Sharron and Jim Norris of Blue Eye, Missouri and Sandy Widder of Neosho, Missouri, eleven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
An important part of Mom and Dad's life was simply and profoundly written "There is a destiny that makes us brothers, None goes his way alone. All that we send into the lives of others, comes back into our own."
Your family misses you Mom-MaMa and will forever but we know that you are in no more pain, that the best is yet to come, you now have a new perfect body and we and "your kids" on C Wing at the Wesleyn at Scenic will see you again.
Love you more. From our hearts to yours.
