Evelyn’s natural athlete ability began as a toddler when she would crawl up the wrought iron columns on the porch and proudly proclaimed “Look where I is!” or pulling out the bottom drawer of a chest of drawers to get whatever was on top. Those ventures usually ended up with a turned over chest, everything on the floor and a scolding from Mom. She began running track in junior high and broke records in short distance races and a passion was born in her for running, boxing and cycling.
Evelyn passed away on June 23, 2010 while on a regular bike ride with the Austin Flyers Women’s Cycling Club. She was pursuing her passion and preparing for a 100 mile bike ride.
Other passions included shoes, her cats Lily and Thor, shoes, collecting camels, shoes, her nieces and nephews and great niece and nephews. If you were Evelyn’s shoe size the nearest shoe store for you was her home – just ask her niece Jennifer!
