Florante Dalit Corpus

Ret. MSGT Florante D. Corpus, 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Austin, Texas, surrounded by family on July 8, 2022. He was born in Zambales, Philippines on November 9, 1954 to a large family with brothers and sisters.

He served all around the world including the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. During a tour in Greece, he met his future wife, Shirley Bambico; they married on October 29, 1981. His 20 years of Air Force service included a deployment to Operation Desert Storm during the Persian Gulf War.

Until his retirement in 1997, he drove six hours every weekend from Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to visit family and perform church duties in Austin. He began a second career with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for the State of Texas in 2000. After 14 years of service, he fully retired to travel and spend time with family.

Flor was a devoutly religious man and a dedicated member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ). Many remember him as Head Deacon for the Austin congregation, always leading various church functions and activities. He taught, through words and deeds, the importance of faith and love for God.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ricarte Corpus, Sr. and Estefania Dalit Corpus. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley Corpus; daughters, Grace Applegate and husband David, and Florence Rillera and husband Reymond; son, Philip Corpus; and grandsons, Daniel Jax and Gabriel Kai Applegate. He leaves a host of relatives, friends, and church family to remember his life.

A visitation for Florante will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. A graveside service will occur Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at Central Texas State Veteran's Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, Texas 76542.
