Gene Graves was a dear friend from my days in Vietnam with both the 330th Trans Recovery Platoon and the 147th ASHC Hillclimbers.  I am so saddened to hear that he has passed.  It has been a number of years since I last talked to him on the phone, but judging from the entries in the Guestbook he was the same wise, kind, and all around gentlemen that I came to know in 1966/67.  I send my condolences to his wife and family and will inform the many people in this country who knew him, but do not know that he has passed away.

I only moved to Texas six months ago from California and had looked forward to going up to Austin to see him.  What a tragic loss for all of us.

In remembrance of a Light on a Hill.  Gene, I just learned that you have gone to see our Father in Heaven.  I so enjoyed all the talks we had when I worked with you.  You always made me smile and laugh, and think about things you would, in all your wisdom, generously share with me.  You were a good friend to me.  You told me once, 'you have to start somewhere, buy one post each month, and by the end of the year you'll have 12 and you can start putting up your fence little by little.'  This was when I shared with you how much it would cost to put up a fence but I couldn't afford it.  Well, I finally got my fence put up.  But, I think that is true in life.  "You have to start somewhere."  I have taken your wisdom with me when I feel overwhelmed in different times of my life and it has helped me achieve big goals by starting little by little.  Gene, I am sad to see you leave this earth.  I have your smile locked in my memory.  Thank you for being such a great person and friend.  And thank you for touching my heart like you did. Neither do men light a candel and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Mr. Greaves was a very kind and gentle man. I have know him for more than ten years. We at CCRC will miss you for all the current events that you shared with us, and your help whenever we needed it. May God strengrhen the family and carry them through this time of sorrow.

I have been at criss cole for six yrs now and Gene was a ray of sunshine. The Captial metro bus would drop me off early a lot, but it always gave us time to catch up on what was going on in each others livies. I going to missed him dearly and my thoughs and prayers are with his family at this time.

My heart goes out to Mrs. Graves and the family. I worked with Gene all of his years her and he Called me the Honey Bunches of Oats Lady. He always said I looked and laughed like the lady doing the commercial. He was a very kind person and will be missed. Sincerely, Chris White.

Mr. Graves I have only known you for 4 years now since I've worked at CCRC. I will miss seeing you on Saturday mornings updating me on current events. I still can't believe your gone. Forever in our hearts, until we meet again.

I worked with Gene at the Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center.  He always had a kind word for everyone.  Thank you Mr. Gene for your service to our country and your co-workers.  You will be missed!

In remembrance of a gentleman; a "gentle man". I will remember Gene as a kind man for I never heard him gossip, a humble man for he had many talents that few people knew about and a just man for he judged people for the goodness in their hearts and not their race, ethnic background or status in society.

I worked with Gene for all of his years at Criss Cole. He was always so true to his work, never missing a beat. He was part of a dedicated team that kept the Criss Cole Center pristeen in appearance. I have always been proud of where I work much because of Gene and his peers efforts. When I would run into Gene in the hallways or when he was in my office picking up after me, he was always kind, and though soft spoken, often shared news of the day or sometimes some bit of wisdom from his life experiences. I always enjoyed hearing about those. I will miss him dearly in the halls of CCRC. My sincere sympathy to his family, who I never met, but feel that I know. Warmly, Cynthia Guilbeau
