Bud received his calling upon hearing of the bombing of Pearl Harbor and enlisted in the Army for World War II. He served as a Combat Engineer where he built several air bases in England then fought from Normandy through the end of the war in the European Campaign serving in five major campaigns. This began a 43 year career in defense of the country he so loved. He then served with the 85th Provisional Field Arty Bn 1st Inf Div and later 3rd Inf Div in Korea. He fought in 5 major Korean campaigns to include the Battle of the Chosin Resevoir, and was wounded and evacuated during the Battle of Taegu – Nakton River. He continued his service through 1969 when he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer, transitioned over to Civil Service and continued his service overseas and at Fort Hood until his final retirement in 1986.
Bud was known locally, after 9/11, as “The Flag Man” and would purchase U.S. Flag lapel pins and pass them out to anyone and everyone he encountered. He was a member of Mount Hiram Masonic Lodge, Ben Hur Shrine Temple (where he participated in the golf club), The Retired Officer Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Each of his friends would tell you that they were his best, each grandchild would tell you that they were absolutely positive that they were his favorite; and every person he encountered would tell you
that they felt special - he had a knack for making every person he encountered endeared to him and feeling that they were the only person he really cared for. The one constant absolute in Bud’s life was his love and devotion to his wife Madean.
Bud, Dad, Bubba (Grandpa), Uncle Bud, you were absolutely the best, we love you and already miss you as do all of those whom you have touched.
