Iris worked in both Washington, D.C. and Houston as a civilian employee for the Navy during World War II. After the war, she spent 28 years as an executive secretary with Continental Oil.
Iris was happily married for 57 years to Louis T. Stremmel, until his death in April 2005. For over 30 years, they lived in Houston, then retired to their country home in Bastrop for over 10 years. Iris was a great cook and was most creative in using foods from their large garden. In later years, they finally moved to Austin, where they were an inseparable couple, and thoroughly enjoyed being active members of St. John United Methodist Church. Those in her Fellowship Class have been faithful in sending cards and letters to her the past 8 years.
For the last 15 years, Iris benefited greatly from the combined attentive devotion, help, visits and calls that she has continually received from her nephew, Donald Hebert and wife Pat, and from her niece, Sharon Stremmel Wilemon and husband, Greg.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00a.m. on Thursday morning, August 8, 2013 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
Should someone desire to do so, Iris’ memory can be honored with a gift to the Memorial Fund at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 2141 Allendale Road, Austin, Texas 78756.
