Ivan Joe Wiley passed away on December 23, 2025. Joe was born on February 22, 1934, in Leander, Texas, to Mood and Bernice Wiley. He grew up attending Leander schools and was the sixth of eight children-a role that helped shape his independence, resilience, and lifelong work ethic.
Joe had a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a tireless drive, always looking for new opportunities. After graduating, he worked in core drilling before entering the United States Army, where he was stationed in California. In 1956, Joe met the love of his life, Louise Scotch. He delighted in retelling the story of their blind date–set up by his sister Amanda–and how he fell in love with Louise the moment he saw her, recalling exactly what she wore and marveling at her beauty, even decades later.
Joe and Louise began their family in Austin, where Joe built a long and dedicated career with the United States Postal Service, eventually serving as Postmaster of the Cedar Park Post Office. Never content to stand still, Joe also rented cars for postal use and gradually began purchasing rental properties. After 32 years of service, he retired in 1989, though retirement simply gave him more time to expand his business and continue providing for his family.
As grandchildren entered the world, "PAPA Joe" became a steady and beloved presence--helping with preschool childcare, sharing stories, and forming deep bonds with each grandchild. Joe and Louise raised their children and formed many deep relationships with their church families at Northwest and Hillcrest Baptist. They also devoted many years to caring for children in the nursery at Northwest Baptist Church.
Joe was known for his quick wit and good humor, often spinning far-fetched stories that left listeners smiling. Above all, he was devoted to his family and known for his generous hospitality. Anyone who walked through his door was welcomed and treated like family. While he wasn't much for board games, if dominoes or a game of 42 was mentioned, Joe was always ready to play.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Mood and Bernice Wiley; his beloved wife of 62 years, Louise Scotch Wiley; his brothers Farrest, Judge, Roger, Bob, Bill Wiley; and his sister Juanita Henry. He is survived by his sister Amanda Pardonner; his daughters Debbie Shackelford and husband Jim of Georgetown, and Julie Wiley of Burnet; his son Larry Wiley and wife Karen of Clifton; seven grandchildren-Jamie Klingaman, Ryan Shackelford, Ashley Murray, Brandi Hockenbrocht, Nate Shackelford, Chad Wiley, and Callie Shields; and nine great-grandchildren-Casey Klingaman, Jackson Klingaman, James Shields, West Shackelford, Ryleigh Hockenbrocht, Wyatt Murray, Dawson Murray, and Grayson Wiley.
Joe's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched-with his steady presence, strong work ethic, warm humor, and unwavering devotion to family.
Those we love never truly leave us; they live on in the stories we tell, the values we carry, and the love we share.
