

He was born January 15, 1931 in the Hartsell Milll community of Kannapolis and Concord North Carolina. He was the 3rd of seven children of Clyde Henry Overcash and Nesbitt Bruce Overcash.
He graduated form Hartsell HS in 1949 and started working for the Stead and Miller textile mill. He also became a member of the North Carolina National Guard.
On December 4, 1950 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After his Basic Training he was assigned to Bergstrom Air Force Base Strategic Air Command in Austin Texas. He earned the rank Staff Sgt and was a Firefighter and instructor. On June 14th 1951 he married his high school sweetheart Anne Cox, in San Marcos Texas. Their only son James Clifton Overcash II, was born September 20th 1952 at the Bergstrom AFB hospital.
After an honorable discharge he began working for Retail Credit Company; later Equifax from 1955 to 1990. He was a field investigator and later a field vice president for the Dataflo Systems Division.
Jim was a 60 plus year member of the Austin Masonic Lodge #12, a 32nd Degree member of the Austin Scottish Rite and a member of the Austin Ben Hur Shrine Temple.
Jim was a lifetime baseball player and fan, playing in the Carolina factory leagues and the military and even had a few tryouts with the old Bostin Braves. He later moved into Major A fast pitch softball where he played and coached for over 20 years. He also served on the rules committee for the American Softball league.
Jim was a Flint Knapper (making arrowheads) and enjoyed anything native American and the west. He could be found Mondays, sitting with his friends knapping and trading stories about flint hunting and archeology across the country.
Jim was also known for his love of music and could usually be found playing, singing or teaching.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife Anne, his Mom Nellie Bruce and Dad Clyde Henry and his brothers and sister.
Jim is survived by his son James (coot) Overcash, his grandchildren, Jamie Overcash of Austin and Shannon Eileen (Sheperd) Overcash , New York, and close friend Linda R Overcash from Horse Mountain Colorado and many, many friends locally and across the country.
Services will be held at the Cook Walden Capital Park Chapel on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 1:00pm with visitation beginning at 12:00pm with graveside services following at Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery.
