Jana loved her family and she had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel very special. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a woman of strong Catholic faith and loved the Lord. She loved to watch her boys play baseball. She was employed by the Embree Group, where she worked in Construction Administration.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Joe and Fred Kohlman and Turner and Faye Givens, and her father-in-law, John Almendarez. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Chris Almendarez; her sons, Chase and Luke Almendarez; and her parents, Don and Pam Givens, all of Round Rock; her parents-in-law, John and Dora Piskor of Spicewood; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and close family members.
The family would like to thank their family, friends, and the entire #TeamJana community for all of the love and support they have received. They would also like to thank the entire staff at Texas Oncology and St. David’s Round Rock for their love and dedication to Jana’s health over the past year. The Almendarez family would also like to thank the Ryan and Sanders families and the Round Rock Express front office, players and coaches for their support over the last 11 months.
A rosary and prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at St. William Catholic Church in Round Rock. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. William Catholic Church. Jana will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
Honoring Jana as pallbearers will be Reid Ryan, Reese Ryan, Tim Jackson, Jeremy Trojacek, Kevin Thompson, Jeff Orth, Matt Kata, and Shane Daigle.
One of Jana’s last wishes was that this be a celebration of life. In keeping with that wish, the family asks that attendees dress in color, avoiding black.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Head for the Cure, in memory of Jana Almendarez; 2020 Baltimore Avenue, Suite 201, Kansas City, MO 64108.
