Jimmy Duran of Pflugerville, TX passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024, at the age of 72. Jimmy was born in Bryan, TX to Lucia and Julian Duran on July 7, 1951. He was one of 15 children born to and adopted by Lucia and Julian, who eventually moved to Temple, TX to raise their family.
At the age of 7, Jimmy discovered the piano which forever changed and shaped his life. His love for music and immense natural talent propelled him into the music industry at the age of 14, when he started touring professionally. Jimmy played, toured, and recorded with various notable artists throughout his life, establishing himself as a formidable talent highly recognized amongst his peers. At the age of 23, Jimmy met his wife Patsy in Houston, Texas where they quickly fell in love and married. They had three children: Melissa, James, and Ashley and relocated their family to Austin, TX. While in Austin, Jimmy established himself as a music educator and beloved community figure.
Although he was an incredible talent, Jimmy continuously worked on his craft. Inspired by his favorite jazz artists: Chick Correa, Herbie Hancock, and Bill Evans, he would sit at his keyboard practicing for hours on end. Jimmy was also an avid sports fan. From tennis, basketball, and baseball, watching “the game” with his wife was his favorite Saturday pastime. But it was the Dallas Cowboys, How bout them Cowboys!, that held his lifelong devotion
While music and sports were his great joy, his family was his passion. His love for his wife, children, and grandchildren inspired him spiritually and pushed him towards a life of inner peace, happiness, and joy. His calming presence and beautiful smile forever imprinted on those he loved.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Patsy Duran of Austin, TX, daughter Melissa and her husband Marshall and their children: Thomas, Caroline, Camille, Junie, Madison, Anna, Marshall Jr., Victoria, and Rebecca of Adkins, TX. Also survived by his son James of Dallas, TX and his daughter Ashley and her husband Jai, and their daughter Leonor of Austin, TX.
