Jo was born on February 21, 1950 to Mervin and Doris Jean (Andrus) Sanford in Conroe, Texas. She grew up in Victoria, and was a long time resident of Crosby, where she was a Deputy Sheriff with the Harris County Sheriff’s office. She later moved to Crockett, wherein she again pursued her career with law enforcement with the Houston County Sheriff’s office. Along with her long-time public service, she also loved working with the local animal shelters to help neglected and unwanted animals. She also had a love of antiques and opened up the antique shop “Somewhere in Time” on the square in downtown Crockett. She later reunited with classmate Michael Filley, and remarried and moved to Austin.
She is survived by her husband, Mike, her daughter, Kymberly and her husband George Poulos, all of whom reside in Austin. She is also survived by her stepchildren, John, Daniel, and Laura Filley of Austin; her sister, Linda and her husband Bud Hankins, and their children, Jason Hankins and Ashlee and husband Robert Seale, and their daughter Abbi Seale, all of Victoria.
The family would like to thank the staff of Heartland Nursing Home for all of their love and compassion.
Jo is met in heaven by her parents, Mervin and Doris Jean Sanford. She will be truly missed and is loved by all.
Memorial services celebrating Jo’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2011 in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.
