

Joe Junior Hobbs, 83, of Austin, passed away on December 13, 2014. He was born on November 16, 1931 in Houston, Texas to Alonzo and Rozella (Herwig) Hobbs. He graduated from Austin High School in 1949. It was at Austin High School where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Ann Whitehead, and they were married in September of that same year.
Joe began a career in the banking industry in 1949, and worked for Austin National Bank and Texas State Bank until 1974. That year he became a partner in Mitchell Adding Machine Company, Inc., DBA Mitchell Time and Parking, where he still worked until his passing. He believed in providing exceptional customer service to his clients long after doing business with them, and was still active in the business until five months ago.
Joe and Dorothy loved to square dance, and became members of the Austin Square and Round Dance Association in 1957. They were instrumental in forming the Texas State Federation of Square and Round Dancers, of which they were President in 1968-1969. They traveled all over the United States for various conventions and meetings, and made life-long friendships along the way. He also loved to fish and enjoyed spending time with his family. He also loved to gamble, and he and Dorothy took many trips to Las Vegas and Shreveport, Louisiana.
Preceding Joe in death are his parents and an infant brother. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Hobbs; sons, Gary Joe and wife Jean Hobbs and Bary Louis and wife Karol Hobbs; grandsons, Bradley, Kevin, Nathan and Thomas Hobbs; granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth and husband Jesse Villalobos; and great-grandson, Wyatt Hobbs. He is also survived by many other family members and numerous friends.
Honoring Joe as pallbearers will be Charles Knudsen, Jasen Fonseca, Shawn O’Neal, Cody Wilson, George Lafosse, and James Lafosse. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Strealy and Joe Segura.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the funeral home chapel. He will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
