Pat was born on January 4, 1937, in Chicago and grew up in Moline, IL. He married Alice Greener on December 28, 1957. She survives along with his five children, Cheryl Northern (Barry Fairbanks), Kevin (Lori Strittmatter), Deanne (Darryl Brincks), Doug (Lisa) and Steve. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a sister, Barbara Brinkman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Corinne and Clifton Short and sister, Beverly, and son-in-law, Chris Northern.
Pat graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, IA. He had a long career with Eagle Signal Corporation holding a variety of positions and ending his time there as General Sales Manager of the Traffic Division. He moved with the company to Austin, TX in 1976. In 1981, he left to pursue sales and consulting roles with smaller tech firms in the Austin area. He referred to this period “as sowing his wild oats”. Ironically, he later returned to Eagle Signal in the Industrial Division, which was then acquired by Danaher Corporation, and retired in 2005.
He enjoyed a long and happy retirement with Alice. He relaxed playing golf and snapping pictures. They traveled extensively with friends and to visit family. He was an active member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Austin, where he sang in the Occasional Choir and served as an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist. He and Alice coordinated the nursing home ministry for 28 years, taking the Blessed Sacrament to residents on Saturday mornings with many other volunteers. Pat also visited and served the poor in the community as a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society for many years. He was a member of the Northwest Hills Kiwanis Club where he also served a term as president. He truly valued the friendships he made through both his church and Kiwanis service work.
We sincerely thank the caregivers at Maravilla Memory care who loved “Papa” and took such great care of him. Unfortunately, there are too many to mention by name. We also thank the Suncrest Hospice team who were so helpful and provided such great care and service in Pat’s final months.
If you desire, we ask that you make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or to a charitable organization of your choice.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 19, at 2:30 pm at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 4311 Small Drive, Austin, TX, 78731.
