

Joseph Curtis of Austin, Texas passed away on September 26, 2023, at the age of 73. Born August 9, 1950, to Arthur and Barbara Curtis in Cheyenne, Wyoming (Warren Air Force Base). Upon graduation from high school in 1969, from Radford High Scholl in Honolulu, Hawaii, he attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois receiving a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Upon graduation, he moved to Austin, Texas working at Sears and internal Revenue Service. During this time, he also earned 30 semester hours in accounting from the University of Texas in preparation to take the Certified Public Accounting state examination. In 1975, he began work at as an auditor for the State where his career lasted over 30 years.
During his auditing career, he performed financial and performance audits at state agencies and universities working in Austin and throughout the State.
His father was a career Air Force Officer. Growing up, he lived in many cities and states as well as Wellsbough, England. He lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Mountain Home, Idaho, Springfield, Illinois, Alexandria, Louisiana, high schools in Waco, Texas and Honolulu, Hawaii. He was fortunate to have seen many beautiful places and meet interesting people. Life was an adventure he enjoyed.
He was blessed with two wonderful children, daughter Sara Curtis and son David Curtis. He was also blessed with loving parents and sisters who provided valuable life lessons and were role models for living a christen life. He also valued and enjoyed many friendships along the way.
He loved basketball and spent most of his free time “shooting hoops”. He was a starting guard on the 1969 Hawaii Basketball State championship team. (Radford High School) and played his freshman year at Bradley University. He also enjoyed surfing in the Hawaii waves.
He was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church. He valued and was very thankful for his relationship with the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Curtis, daughter, Sara Curtis, son David Curtis, sisters Barbara Anderson and Cheryle Curtis, niece Kristie Young, and nephew Brian Young.
