January 14, 1953 – May 19, 2026
Joyce Hopson, better known as Big Momma to all the kids, a name she hand selected before the birth of her first grandchild of Flint, TX, passed away May 19, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her husband William, parents Roland and Emma Lee Harper, sister Della Graham, and brothers Robert and William Harper.
She is survived by son Willie and Lana; grandkids Savannah, Tristan, and Sheridan; sister Genolia “Nossy” Anderson; brothers Ronnie and Edward Harper; twins Nan Moss and Jan Sukup; and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Saved and baptized, Joyce lived her faith through caring for others.
A 1997 Temple College graduate, she retired as a Director of Nurses for geriatrics, known for being no-nonsense and compassionate. She’d tell you the truth, then sneak you dessert.
Joyce belonged on the lake. She made her own stink bait, caught and cleaned the catfish herself, and fried them up with her tarter sauce, homemade French fries, and onions. If you ate at her table, you were family. She loved road trips with her brother and sister, and for nearly 20 years she and Nossy ran the grandkids vacation, hosting 17 kids last summer. Funny, unfiltered, and honest, Joyce taught us how to bait a hook, pack a car, and turn ordinary days into memories worth keeping.
We love you, Big Momma, and we know William and the family were waiting to welcome you home. We’ll keep a seat for you at the table.
