Judith Irene Roe Johnson (known as Judy Johnson) passed peacefully from this world to be with our Lord on August 3, 2025, surrounded by her family. She lost a long, courageous battle with multiple myeloma (one of many types of blood cancer) which caused a spinal tumor and subsequent severe sacral wound over 3 years ago, leaving her legs paralyzed. With no muscle mass left, movement finally started returning to her legs and the severe wound (which caused further infection to her blood and spine) was finally healed 2 years ago. Then, while still undergoing chemotherapy for the blood cancer, we began exercising her legs to the point that she was able to briefly stand with assistance. I am confident that she could have been walking again soon if not taken by the multiple myeloma.
Judy has a beautiful soul. She was always cheerful; never disgruntled or sour like some. She remained cheerful in spite of the overwhelming circumstances of recent years. We have always believed that the cup is always half full, never half empty, and being thankful to God for our many blessings.
I, Judy's husband, met her in 1972. My coworker who was dating Judy's best friend arranged a blind double date, and we played miniature golf. I was immediately taken with Judy. At the time, Judy was still living at home with her dad, and her mother had only passed away 3 years before. She had done some retail sales work and was working with her best friend who had jewelry sales parties in people's homes.
Judy and I married in 1973, and we began planning our family. We both agreed it was more important for a mother to raise small children at home, like we grew up, than for Judy to work and put kids in daycare. Our daughter Amy was born in 1975 and our son Jason in 1977. Judy was an exceptional wife, mother, homemaker, and housewife. Both our children grew up to be fine adults. Before our kids reached school age, most of Judy's time was taken with tasks of motherhood. When our kids started school, Judy often took them back and forth to school in our station wagon when they didn't ride the bus and was always baking cookies for special school parties or events at school.
Judy cooked a well-balanced home cooked meal for us every evening, and we ate it around the dinner table and talked with our kids about the events of the day. That continued until our kids were grown. Judy also baked delicious cakes for everybody's birthdays and cakes for other holidays and special events. She also took cake decorating classes. She even baked elaborate wedding cakes for our family and for many nieces and nephews.
Judy was an artist. Judy learned to paint and rather than painting on a flat canvas, Judy preferred to paint mainly floral motifs on three dimensional objects. She especially liked painting on glassware like vases, drinking glasses, plates, anything. She also hand-painted glass Christmas ornaments every year for family members and also hand-crafted others that were not painted from ideas she had. Many talk about their collection of Judy Christmas ornaments that they hang on their Christmas trees every year.
We will miss my Judy more than words can say, but we are comforted by the fact that her world suffering is now over, and we will see her again in Heaven.
Judy is preceded in death by her mother Bessie Roe and father Edward W. Roe; brothers E.W. "Sonny" Roe, Jr, Charles Roe, James Roe, and David Roe. She is also preceded in death by her mother-in-law Maydell Johnson and father-in-law Chester Johnson, Sr.
Judy is survived by her husband Chester Johnson, Jr; daughter Amy Johnson and son Jason Johnson; daughter-in-law Kristen Johnson and her daughter Paige; Judy's sisters Geraldine Winningham, Billie Cox, Frances Witcher, Joan Neely, brother Donald Roe, and brother-in-law Kenneth Johnson. Judy is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
A visitation for Judith will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
