Kevin fought a valiant and courageous battle against heart disease for many years. He never complained but continued moving forward in life in his own heroic way. Laughing, joking, and supporting friends, golfing, fishing, enjoying music and family. Kevin never gave up, his heart just gave out.
Kevin attended LBJ High School in Austin, Texas. He enlisted in the Marine Corp upon graduation and received an honorable discharge after suffering a severe knee and leg injury. He was formerly employed by Brackenridge and Seton Hospitals as a phlebotomist and several other healthcare agencies until he became disabled due to his health condition.
Kevin loved cooking; he was an awesome cook from a family of cooks. He explored new recipes and exchanged recipes with his sisters. He could often be found sampling new and different restaurants with friends. He became a trusted food critic posting his experiences on social media.
Kevin was an avid golfer and spent many hours on the golf course playing in local and state wide tournaments. He also hosted several golf tournaments here in the Austin area. He had a great love for fishing as well.
But the love of Kevin’s life was music. He found his special place at KAZI 88.7 FM radio. Kevin wore many hats at KAZI. He spent countless hours at the station and away from the radio station representing KAZI and its interests. He was a mentor, teacher, friend, co-worker, family and a very capable assistant and right hand man to the station manager. Monday Morning Madness at KAZI will never be the same. God called home an awesome DJ last Friday. There must have been a job opening in Heaven for a DJ. God looked down and called up djFlexx to fill the spot. God has spoken!
Kevin is survived by his mother Lillie Fletcher; son, Kevin Thornton; brothers Tommie Thomas of Athens, Texas, Michael Thomas of Austin, Texas; sisters Deborah Batts, Cynthia Burdett, Patricia Cannon and Sharon Gordon all of Austin, Texas; special friend Felisha Williams; several nieces and nephews; cousins and a host of other relatives. Of course his KAZI family whom he held dear.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father Leo “Big Fox” Fletcher, sister Pamela Thomas-Kayembe and brother Charles Vester Fletcher.
We praise God for loaning us this awesome treasure named Kevin Louis Fletcher. We say to God; THANK YOU!! And to Kevin we say; It’s not goodbye, but see you later. I holla!
