

He is survived by his wife Frances Boal. His daughters Kathryn Boal, Rebecca Boal his son Matthew Boal and wife Adrienne Fontenot-Boal.
He was preceded in death by his parents Shirley and Eldon Boal and his brother Christopher Boal.
Kim was born on January 3, 1945, in a modest home in Dayton, OH, and soon moved to Westchester, California. Growing up in southern California he made his mark appearing on Art Linkletter’s Kids Say the Darndest Things television show and winning a once in a lifetime trip to the opening of Disneyland. After graduating from Westchester High in 1962, and he went on to study Business Administration at Cal State LA. He met and married the love of his life, Frances Boal, in 1970. Together they appeared on and won the Newly Wed Game Show, beginning a wonderful journey of 55 years of marriage. They continued his education, and he received his Master of Business Administration and Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
From there he began his path as an educator and researcher as a professor. Teaching at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, Utah State University, University of Nevada-Reno, and Texas Tech University where he taught for 32 years. During that time, he was also asked to be a visiting professor at Penn State University and the University of Queensland in Australia. At Texas Tech, he had been appointed Rawls Professor of Management and held the Trinity Professorship in Organizational Studies and Strategic Management with many more accolades and achievements he was proud of from the many academic journals he was published in, the studies his work was sited in, and the journals he become editor of. In 2023 he earned Professor Emeritus status at Texas Tech University.
He was a dedicated and loving husband and father to his three children and wife. In his lifetime Kim shared all his loves with the people in his life. He loved to travel, especially a long family road trip. Most springs and summers were spend driving across America and making family memories. Disneyland was his favorite destination and each time he visited was became that young boy again.
He loved movies his favorites being the original The Thing and all classic Rogers and Hammerstein musicals. He would implore me to stop now to ask if you have seen Carousel and beg you to watch it if you have not seen it yet. For him it was the best musical ever made. Kim loved living and a never turned down a new adventure. He drove a motorcycle in his youth, learned how to sail with Frances, took his family traveling in a motorhome, and never turned down a chance to ride in a train. He always said if he was not a professor, he wanted to be a trucker.
He cherished all his pets, from his childhood cat Blackie to is family pets Shakespeare, Oliva, Toby, CiCi and Pistache. The music he listened to became the soundtrack to his life. He was a hopeless romantic and sentimental to his core so 1950’s love songs never stopped playing. He listened to songs by the Platter’s, Johnny Mathis, Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, and of course Rogers and Hammerstein every chance he got.
The most rewarding part of his work were the relationships he built with his colleagues and students he mentored from all around the world. Many succeed and built careers he was incredibly proud of.
The world was a better place with him in it and he will always be loved and not forgotten.
A celebration of life for Kimberly will be held Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
