LaNan Ruth Hempel Saxon, 80, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, in Round Rock, Texas, surrounded by her family.
She was born to Howard and Willie Mae Hempel on July 26, 1944, in Taylor, Texas. She was raised in Austin and graduated from McCallum High School in 1962, where she was active in student organizations and modeling clubs. After graduation, she attended modeling school, worked retail and pharmacy jobs, and took evening college courses.
LaNan met Clifford Saxon in the mid-1960s during a chance encounter while helping her cousin move. They were married in October 1967 after a brief engagement and went on to share nearly 55 years of marriage. The couple lived and worked in Houston prior to the birth of their first child. They later returned to Austin to raise their family before settling in Georgetown.
Throughout her life, LaNan was devoted to her family. She embraced her role as a full-time homemaker but also worked in secretarial and bookkeeping positions. She was known for her organization, creativity, and generous spirit.
LaNan stayed actively involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives, volunteering at school events, serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother, and attending countless games, performances, and special events. She also enjoyed crafting, sewing costumes, and preparing holiday treat bags that became cherished family traditions.
She and Clifford shared a love of travel, dancing, bowling, chili cook-offs, and spending time at Lake Travis with family and friends.
A two-time breast cancer survivor, LaNan met each challenge with quiet determination and grace. Her resilience and thoughtfulness left a lasting impression on those who knew her.
LaNan is survived by her son, Brent Saxon, and daughter-in-law, Lucinda Dean Saxon; her
daughter, Monica Boram, and son-in-law, Doug Boram; her grandchildren, Parker Saxon, Bryce Boram, and Blake Boram; her brother Claude Hempel; her sister-in-law, Pat Hempel; and her brother-in-law, Hutch Hutchens. She is also lovingly remembered by her extended family, including nephews, nieces, cousins, and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Willie Mae Hempel, and her beloved husband, Clifford Allen Saxon.
A visitation for Lanan will be held Monday, April 14, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
A funeral service will occur Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
A committal services will occur Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
