

Lillie Louise Winter, 93, of Austin, Texas passed away on March 5, 2025. She was born in Giddings, Texas on December 11, 1931. She was welcomed into the family of God through the sacrament of Holy Baptism on December 20, 1931, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings, Texas. Lillie was confirmed on March 25, 1945, also at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Giddings. She married Clarence Arnold Winter on June 22, 1957, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings.
Lillie was a homemaker and primary caregiver to her family, dedicating her life to raising her six daughters. She often sewed clothes for her children, attended many of the school events, and was very involved in their daily lives. She was known for her homemade noodles, hot salsa, and for pickling many of their homegrown vegetables. She was a devout Christian and always ensured that her family was in church each Sunday and that God was a key part of their lives. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas for over 60 years. In her later years, she worked for the Austin Independent School District.
Lillie loved to play dominoes and was an avid Texas Ranger, fan. She had the games on every night and cherished watching them win the World Series in 2023. She had a great sense of humor and could joke with the best of them.
She is survived by her daughters: Sharon (Steve) Douglas, Sandra (Pat) Reynolds, Suzanne (Jim) Sunvison, Cindy (Louis) Turi, Cathy (Kirk) Jonse, and Carol Winter. She has ten grandchildren: Christen, Garrett, Shannon, Scott, Kevin, Corey, Kyle, Ryan, Brett, and Sarah. She also has nine great-grandchildren: Joshua, Samantha, Parker, Easton, Sophie, Remy, James, Henry, and Brooks; a tenth great-grandchild is expected in June.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, her parents Gus and Selma Wernecke. Her brothers Herman and Erwin Wernecke, and her sisters Alwine Schneider and Frieda Wernecke.
A visitation for Lillie will be held Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3501 Red River St, Austin, TX 78705. A funeral service will occur Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 3501 Red River St, Austin, TX 78705. A committal service will occur Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 14501 N Interstate Hwy 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
