Lloyd was born on August 19th, 1931, in Milam County as the 2nd of 5 children to Orrin and Ruby Chambers.
Growing up, he spent much of his childhood tending to livestock and doing farm work along areas of the San Gabriel River. He often said that he grew up dirt poor, but it taught him to have perseverance, ambition, and a never-ending faith in God.
In high school, he excelled as one of the fastest football players at Thorndale High School, where he graduated in 1949.
After graduation, Lloyd joined the National Guard for four years from 1950 to 1954. In 1954, he entered the army as a Sergeant and served overseas in the Korean War until 1956.
Upon his return to the United States, Lloyd began his career as a Trooper with the Department of Public Safety & relocated to Corpus Christi, TX, where he met the love of his life, Fannie.
Lloyd and Fannie were married on May 30, 1959, and began a committed and loving life of 65 years together. Lloyd adopted Fannie’s 6-year-old son, Robert Marshall Chambers of Cedar Creek, TX, to raise as his son.
In 1961, Lloyd and Fannie proudly welcomed their daughter, Susan Kay (Chambers) Phillips of Lampasas, TX.
Lloyd later moved his family to El Paso, Texas where he was promoted to a DPS Sergeant. He retired as a Sergeant at the young age of 55 years old with 30 years of service. In 1988, Lloyd and Fannie relocated to Cedar Creek, Texas, where Lloyd called home for the remainder of his life.
In retirement, Lloyd was very involved in his church ministries and found comfort in managing his cattle. He was a member of the Heart of Texas Church of Christ in Bastrop, TX, but continued ties with his lifelong friends at Cameron Road Church of Christ in Austin, TX.
Lloyd was a loving husband and provider to his family. He and Fannie loved taking their grandchildren on adventures at the Frio River, Lake Limestone, and along the Yegua Creek.
Lloyd enjoyed the outdoors, playing dominoes, and being helpful. In his later years, you could find him playing games with his great-grandchildren: Lawson, Payton, Nolan, Cole, Marlo, and Miles, or watching cars drive by and talking about how fast they were going as they did.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his dearly beloved Fannie, and by his brothers Orrin, Kenneth, and Douglas.
Lloyd is survived by his children Bob Chambers and Kay Phillips (and husband Skip); his grandchildren, who knew him as “Pappaw”: Lindsey Randall and husband Nick; Austen Phillips and partner Lemiron; Kaysi Carter and husband Chris; Andrew Phillips and wife Emily. Lloyd is also survived by his great-grandchildren and his sister, Norma Jean.
