Lois met her future husband, Willie Wilhelm, at a skating rink in Austin and they married on August 20, 1945. Willie was stationed at Camp Swift.
Lois had several jobs while raising her children – provided child care in her home, worked at the Chief Drive In, Beall’s Department Store and for the Austin Independent School District. She retired from AISD. The most important job she had was raising her five children. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. Many a baby have been wrapped in her crocheted blankets. Lois was quite a crafter, making unusual items from everyday things.
Before Willie’s death, they loved to travel and through their love of bluegrass music made many lifelong friends.
Lois is survived by her children, Carol and Donnie Smith, Vicki and Wayne Collins, Angie and Danny Stabeno, Mary and Tommy Wilhelm and Gina and Don Wilhelm; 26 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Doris Toliver and a host of family and friends.
Graveside celebration will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville, Texas.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Rocky Hollow Lake House and Kindred Hospice for the loving care they provided.
