Lou Dickey Baucus Farr, a gentle lady with a heart of gold and impeccable character passed from this life into God’s waiting arms on Thursday, June 19, 2014. She was born July 6, 1921 in Kansas City, Missouri to Francis Dobyns and William Nichols Baucus. She grew up in Kansas City, graduated from Westport High School and attended Lindenwood College for Women in St. Charles, Missouri.
She met and fell in love with Texan, Louis Lee Farr III. They were married in the Westport Presbyterian Church on September 14, 1940. They immediately moved to the Bar S Ranch in Irion and Reagan Counties, Texas. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Louis immediately activated his commission and volunteered for active duty. Lou Dickey, two months pregnant, followed him around the country to his various assignments. She volunteered for the Red Cross and found whatever housing was available in each town. All that mattered was being together. During World War II, the couple first welcomed a daughter, Penelope Ann “Penny” Farr, and later a son, Louis Lee “Bud” Farr IV. Post-war, they returned to the Bar S and were blessed with two more sons, William Baucus “Bill” Farr and later, Phil Sawyer “Phippie” Farr. They spent over 30 years on the Ranch. These were the happiest years of Lou Dickey’s life. After leaving the ranch, the Farrs moved to San Angelo and then to Austin, Texas where they spent the rest of their lives.
Lou Dickey was truly the most elegant, gentle woman. She was artistic, graceful, well-educated and found joy in the small things in life. She loved bluebonnets, gardening, a beautifully set table and having a good dog by her side. She loved only one man and is happily by his side again. She was the true definition of a lady.
Lou Dickey was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; daughter, Penelope Farr Taylor; daughter-in-law, Annis Friend Farr; brother, Bill Baucus and sister, Nancy Weber. She is survived by her three sons, Bud Farr of Lubbock, Texas; Bill and wife Janelle of Austin, Texas; Phil and wife Billie of Ft. Worth, Texas; son-in-law, Herbie R. Taylor; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and niece, Ellen Johnson.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 23, 2014, at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
