Lucinda Guzman Matthews, 82, passed away on November 18, 2022 in Pflugerville, Texas. Luci was born on April 12th, 1940 in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she spent the majority of her life. After Luci graduated from Incarnate Word High School, she went on to study Accounting at Loyola University, becoming the first member of her family to earn a college degree. Upon completion of her Bachelor of Business Administration, Luci worked for Shell Oil prior to working for the City of Corpus Christi where she would meet her future husband of 48 years, Douglas Matthews.
While working and raising two young boys, Luci earned her Certified Public Accounting license and continued to practice for several years until her retirement. Luci loved to travel - she visited family in Mexico in her early life and traveled extensively in the US and Canada on road trips with her family. Whether it was supporting her kids with school activities or helping take care of her mom and other elderly relatives, Luci’s family was always her top priority.
As a testament of Doug and Luci’s love, despite Luci’s own struggle with cancer, she was Doug’s primary caregiver during his 20-year battle with ALS. Luci is survived by her brother, Martin, two sons, Carl and David, three stepsons, Keith, Klyde and Kory, one stepdaughter, Kim and a grand-dog, Tater Tot.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2022 immediately followed by a graveside service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville, Texas.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cookwaldencapitalparks.com for the Matthews family.
