Born February 18, 1918, in Austin, Texas, Mabel was the daughter of John and Augusta (Erdmann) Gest. She and Rupert Astin were married on October 12, 1946. She devoted her life to her husband and family. In Mabel’s later years, she enjoyed sitting on her porch and waving to her neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and she is survived by their daughter, Katherine Astin. She is also survived by two nieces, Dorothy Hobbs and husband Joe, and Frances Taylor; nephew, J. B. Gest; great-nephews, Gary Hobbs, Bary Hobbs, and Michael Taylor; great-niece, Brenda Coleman; along with other loving family and friends.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 20, 2011, at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
