Marion Margret Dufrene Walton was born on June 5, 1931, in the community of Vacherie-Gheens in South Louisiana, in the family home. She entered eternal rest on September 1, 2025, surrounded by those who loved her most.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Eva Champagne Dufrene, her father, Jesse Dufrene Sr., her siblings Edmond Dufrene, Howard Dufrene, and her sister Mona Dufrene Fonseca.
Marion’s memory lives on through her devoted siblings: Herman Dufrene, Harold Dufrene, Janet Dufrene Chiasson, Jesse Dufrene Jr and wife Sharlene and sister-in-law Rosita Dufrene.
She was the proud and loving mother of her son Robert (Bob) Evans and wife Julie, daughter Penny Evans, and son Jesse (Jim) Walton and wife Flora.
Her legacy continues to shine through her nine cherished grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, each of whom carries her love forward into future generations.
Marion was known for her kindness, strength, and the unwavering love she poured into her family. She remained deeply connected to her Louisiana roots, visiting home as often as she could. She spoke with her sister Janet daily, checking in and sharing life, and her brother Jesse called often to ensure she was doing well.
In her late teens, Marion moved to New Orleans, where she met her lifelong best friend, Geraldine (Gerry) Ehrhard. The two worked together at the Wego Inn on the Hill in Westwego, Louisiana, forming a friendship that lasted a lifetime.
Marion’s life with her husband, Joe Walton, took her across the country. Together they lived in Louisiana and Texas, working side-by-side on many business ventures. Their adventures included a ski lodge in Durango, Colorado, and a fishing lodge on the coast of Belize, Central America.
Later in life, Marion worked as a substitute teacher in Austin-area schools. In retirement, she found joy and purpose volunteering at the House Rabbit Resource Network, where she helped run the rabbit shelter store and spent time with many wonderful people who deeply valued her presence.
She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
