Mary Maxine Moore, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, friend and Christian transitioned to her heavenly home on Monday, August 29, 2022. She was a long time member of Westside Church of Christ.
Mary was born November 25, 1925 in Logansport, Indiana to Howard and Esta May Swisher. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Moody, brother Willis, sister Clara, sister Edna and son Barry and his wife Susan.
Mary and her family moved frequently in her early years moving to Indianapolis, Harlingen Texas, back to Indiana, back to Harlingen, back to Indiana, then to Texarkana where she met Moody Moore in October 1942. "It was love at first sight". After 8 days they were engaged. In their early years of marriage in the military they moved 6 times in one year. The first assignment was in Topeka, Kansas where son Barry Alan was born July 31, 1944. June 1945 it was back to Texarkana. Early spring 1946 it was back to Topeka where Howard Lee "Dinty" was born April 2, 1947. Then to College Station. Then Little Rock, Arkansas. Then Southern Pines, North Carolina and Virginia. Then in 1952 to Dallas where Ann Michelle was born April 11, 1956 and Lisa Renee on January 23, 1959. Then in 1963 they moved to Austin. Faith was always first. They were members of Cameron Road from 1963 to 1979. They moved to Round Rock and were members at RR until Westside was formed in the summer of 1990. She loved her Westside family with all her heart. Mary taught classes from 2 years olds to teen girls, to ladies Bible classes. She was also active in missionary classes.
Mary's love of roses and gardening is legend. Two weeks after breaking her hip at age 95 she was back in her yard spreading dirt and weeding her flower beds.
Mary and Moody loved Colorado. Moody retired in 1973 and with trailer in tow they headed to Pagosa Springs for the summer. They would leave May 1st, stay in the same campground (Bruce Spruce), same lot # and return to Texas September 30. Kids and grandkids would always visit them there for hikes, fishing, camp fires, horse rides and Colorado fun. The stories of the "50 pound rocks" that Mary and Moody load in the camper to bring back to Texas were numerous. They were completely happy.
In 1981 the love of her life - Moody - passed. To continue the tradition they both started, Mary later bought a full size RV and was headed back to Pagosa. A little lady driving a large RV by herself was quite a sight.
Mary's legacy and memory will be remembered by her grandkids MaryKay, Buddy, Missy, Mandy, Stephanie, Tara, Jennifer, and Lori Ann.
Great-grandkids Kay Lynne, Benjamin, Hayden, Kennedy, Charlotte, Kaleb, Kimberley, Sean, Tristan, Lorelai, and Kenneth. Great-great grandkids Cooper and Hadley. And many church family and friends.
"It has been a long full life and I am grateful for all I have learned, those who graced my life and for the comforting arms of my Lord."
Graveside service will be held 9:30 a.m., Friday, September 2, 2022 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas. Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 2, 2022 at Westside Church of Christ, 3300 RM 1431 Round Rock, Texas.
