

Sister Mattie M. Richard passed away peacefully at home into the presence of the Lord on September 29, 2025.
Mattie was born on May 8, 1947 in Austin, Texas to Mr. Albert McCarther, and Mrs. Lillie Ward McCarther both of whom preceded her in death. To this union was born nine children, She grew up in Austin, Texas with eight siblings four brothers, Curtis (deceased), Joseph (deceased), Eddie (deceased) Thomas; and four sisters: Alberta (deceased), Mary Ann, Katherine and Annie. Mattie graduated from the original L. C. Anderson High School in 1965. She worked many years for Hart Graphics and later moved on to work for Dell Computers where she retired.
Mattie Richard had a sincere motherly love for her four children, David Gordon, Michael Gordon, John Gordon and Sarah Shelby Davis and they too loved her dearly.
On July 5, 1977, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior after hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ preached by the late, Bishop Roland James Allen. She was an active member of the New Covenant Church under the leadership of Bishop Eddie E. Willis, Sr. In her personal salvation, Mattie was dedicated and full of faith. She lived a single life for eleven years. Then on November 7, 1999, Russell Richard was invited to attend a worship service. Brother Richard gave his life to Christ and soon they both were united in holy matrimony on April 8, 2000. They were married for 25 years and a wonderful example of a marriage in Christ. She had a great love for Russell’s children from a previous marriage Russell Richard, Jr., Randrick Richard and Rushara Richard.
Brother Russell Richard was later ordained as a Deacon in the New Covenant Church; they both worked together in the work of the Lord. She was faithful to the service of the Lord and lifted up her voice to sing in the New Covenant Church Anointed Praise Hope Choir, until her health failed and she could not. Her presence was greatly missed.
On special church missionary endeavors, she would make flower corsages for all the women in the Choir. She was a deacon wife who also served on the Comfort and Care committee, helping to feed the sick. Brother and Sister Richard were appointed as head of the Bereavement Committee where they extended love and comfort to anyone who had lost loved ones.
Sister Mattie was a woman of great-great faith and encouraged others during her battle with cancer. She was a woman who modestly shared her wisdom and during her illness where many came to visit to encourage her: she was able to encourage them.
Sister Mattie M. Richard entered into eternal rest on September 29, 2025 at the age of 78. She will best be remembered for her GREAT – FAITH and God’s Grace.
She is survived by and leaves to cherish fond memories of her life to her faithful husband, Brother Russell Richard.

To Her Siblings, Abazz Nu’Man, Mary Ann Ali, Katherine Zachary and Annie Sorrells; and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nephews, Nieces, Relatives, Great-Grandchildren and Pastor Eddie E. Willis, Sr. and the New Covenant Church Family.
A visitation will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, located at 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660, on October 10, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The funeral service is scheduled for October 11, 2025, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at New Covenant Church, 132 TX-21, Bastrop, TX 78602.
Committal services will take place on October 11, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Ih-35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
