Michael J. Richmond

Michael Richmond, 68, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a dear friend to many, passed away on July 23, 2022. Michael was born, one of 4 children, to parents Marcia and William L. Richmond on March 16,1954, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. Michael’s Father served in the United States Airforce, therefore, Michael was raised first in Wisconsin, and then in Mississippi, Florida, Organ, New York State, and Texas City, Texas where he attended and graduated in 1972 from Texas City High School. He met his future wife, Elizabeth Anne Kales in High School. After graduation, Michael served in the United States Navy and was stationed at the Naval Base in Long Beach, California. After Elizabeth graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, she and Michael were married in Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Texas City. When Michael was Honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, he too attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the U.T. School of Business.

Michael was a professional and a gentleman to everyone he encountered. In his career at the Texas Education Agency, he was the Manager of the Audit Division and an audit investigator. He very much enjoyed his friends at work, and spoke of them often. He was extremely close to his sister, Janet. Michael treasured his beloved daughter, Catherine. He most enjoyed spending time with, and spoiling, his two grandsons Sean and Patrick. Michael loved sharing his interests with them and teaching them along the way. If any of his family needed him, he would drop everything and immediately rush to assist. In his final years, Michael and Elizabeth were constant companions and they were deeply close. He will be greatly missed by many, but mostly by those closest to him.

Michael was preceded in death by his Mother, his Father, and his stepfather, Newton Tennies. Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth, his daughter Catherine Elizabeth Richmond Wells (Kenneth Mark), his Grandsons Sean Michael Wells and Patrick Stephen Wells – all of Fort Worth, Texas, and sister Janet Sue King (Ronnie), of San Angelo, Texas, brothers Dwight William Richmond (Ruth) of Grovetown, Georgia, Patrick Loyal Richmond (Jan), of Wedgefield, South Carolina, his Nephews Kevin Wayne King of San Angelo, Texas, Matthew William Richmond of North Carolina, Shawn Patrick Richmond of Renton, Washington State, Duston Patrick Michael Richmond (Rachael) of Seattle, Washington, Dylan Loyal Richmond in Kentucky, and his Nieces Marcia (Marci) Whitman (Aaron), of Severn, Maryland, Lacey Marie Richmond of Sommerset, Kentucky.

Pallbearers are Kenneth M. Wells, Sean M. Wells, Patrick S. Wells, Dwight W. Richmond, Patrick L. Richmond, Ronnie W. King, and Kevin W. King.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with Memorial Service starting at 2:00 p.m., in the Capitol Room at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas, 78660. A committal service will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
